Knee Pain

There are many types of knee pain. Physio can diagnose the problem and then treat it effectively. The three main knee injuries are;

Cartilage (meniscus) damage or tear.

Cartilage is between the bones of the knee joint and act as a shock absorber. As such they can be damaged over time or can tear due to a knee injury. Physio will diagnose the problem and then treat the area. If we feel that a consultant appointment is necessary to fully investigate and treat the cartilage damage/tear we will arrange a consultant appointment for you.

Ligaments.

The ligaments of the knee act to stabilise the knee joint and hold the bones in position. When a ligament is over stretched it can tear or loosen the fibres of the ligament. Physio will diagnose the ligament problem and then guide you through rehabilitation and treatment to return to normal painfree use of the knee joint.

Knee cap pain (patellofemoral joint pain).

The knee cap sits in a groove created by the thigh bone (femur) in the knee joint. The knee cap moves smoothly up and down through this groove. The knee cap can begin to move abnormally in the groove over time and cause pain. The reasons for this abnormal movement are varied. Your Physio will identify these causes and treat them effectively to restore normal painfree movement of the knee cap.
